Free Flow Update September 2002Hello everyone! It is that time again when you get an update from Jackie! I am currently in Saskatoon where I plan to live at least for a while. I have just changed my identification over to Saskatchewan and while it feels weird it also feels pretty promising! I had a great summer on the fringe this year. I was not performing but working as a stage manager this time around. In Toronto I worked for Tom Corless and his show Wonder Toys and then in Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Edmonton for Alex Dallas (of Sensible Footwear). I had an amazing time working with her and an incredibly fun summer! In between Saskatoon and Edmonton I was off to Bruno (a tiny blip on the map) Saskatchewan to teach for the Dance Saskatchewan Summer Steps Camp. It was a week long residential camp and this was my third year working at it. I was teaching Modern and Medieval dance (talk about two ends of time)! On top of teaching I was in charge of Bowling nite! A fellow instructor Diana and I managed to take 80 some kids bowling and still roll a few rounds ourselves . But by the end of the night we had both completely lost what little math skills we had. I have been helping out at the new building, which will be the Provincial Dance Centre for Saskatchewan. Mostly ripping out old walls and hauling construction debris out to the bins. Hard work but wow its unbelievable how far it has come already. I have been asked to teach professional Development classes in Modern Dance in the new year and will also be running my own modern classes for beginners, experienced dancers and for actors. I have joined the committee for the women's art festival this spring. It is going to be called Hericane E. I will be producing a dance show with a friend (Misty Wensel) from Regina for the festival and we hope to present the show at the Winnipeg Fringe and possibly the Toronto fringe as well. I hope to showcase the first section of one of the new dances work at the Dare to Dance Festival on Nov. 2nd at Centennial Hall in Saskatoon. I am planning a dance down by the river, outdoor dance event, to run alongside the Saskatoon Fringe Festival. We are currently discussing the possibilities but nothing has bee solidified as of yet. I will keep you all posted on this event. This Sunday I head out on my workshop tour of rural schools in Saskatchewan. There are five artists touring all over the province for 8 weeks. I am teaching a Create your own Dance Workshop. I have big plans for the future here and have submitted a grant application to start up the WIP (works in progress) Series, which will be similar to the 8:08 Series in Toronto. So everyone keep your fingers crossed for me! Well this is getting too long so I am going to end it here with this little reminder to everyone…. I will be back for the month of December and for New Years in Toronto. I WILL be hosting a Happy New Year party with a Moulin Rouge Theme. So plan on attending it is going to be an amazing event! If you are interested in dancing as a can can girl or singing r performing in some way please let me know!!!
Until then
