2012 Annual ReportHere’s what happened in 2012! THE COMPANY
Artistic Director: Jackie Latendresse DANCE EVENTS We began the year with a bang performing part of the Great Mystery Project at Lugo at the Mendel art gallery on January 14th followed shortly by a special appearance at the Avenue community centre Cabaret Show March 31st. On April 29th Free Flow hosted its annual International Dance Day celebration as well as performed at the Dance Saskatchewan Centre event. Back Alley Antics took place on June 16th and featured our new work 3 Monkeys which took place on a 5 story fire escape stairwell. The event featured many other local dance and performance artists. On July 19th the company presented a showing of Danny Grossman's Triptych as a part of the AKA Gallery Art Walk and hosted a very successful talk back afterwards with the local art community. Excerpts from “Crave” a new 28 minute work created by Artistic Director Jackie Latendresse were performed at three performances of Dance on the Saskatchewan hosted by Dance Saskatchewan Inc at the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan stage in August and the company was fortunate to work with choreographer Graham McKelvie to develop a new work called “postcards from the last summer.” To round out the year Free Flow Dance Theatre were special guests at the Rosebud Christmas Spectacular at the Refinery Theatre. W.I.P. NEW DANCE SERIES The Works in progress series 2012 presented showings in June and September. Participants included: Tina Bertoncini – Saskatoon, Sasha Amaya – Winnipeg, Free Flow Dance – Saskatoon, Erica Jacks – Saskatoon, Johanna Bundon – Regina, Graham McKelvie – Japan, Kyle Syverson – Saskatoon, Rae Ann Neilson – Saskatoon, Ntara Curry – Winnipeg. CRYPTOGRAM We presented a full length evening of works at La Troupe Du Jour Theatre on October 20th to a sold out house! The performance featured: Triptych, postcards from the last summer and the full version of Crave. FUNDRAISERS Dr. Sketchy's anti art school has continued to support the dance company by allowing us to run the concession at their various events throughout the year. We also hosted our annual Naughty Bingo to great success along with a pin up hair workshop, Sock hop dance complete with a lindy hop lesson, Funkadellica dance party which featured a Hustle lesson and our Christmas Cash drive. COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS Free Flow Dance again had the opportunity to teach free dance workshops in 2012 to other non-profit and community organizations in Saskatoon. This year's participants included: Sherbrooke Central Haven Care Home, LutherCare, White Buffalo Youth Lodge, Oliver Lodge, Tweens on Guard, Community Living Association of Saskatoon, Yirjan, SlypOut, and Sherbrooke Community Centre ART STAR! This year our Artistic Director Jackie Latendresse was nominated for the YWCA Women of Achievement awards and the Lieutenant Governors award. The Free Flow Dance Centre was also voted the best dance studio in Saskatoon in the Planet S Magazine! COMPANY RETREAT November 17th the dancers and staff held a one day in house retreat to review the season and brainstorm for our upcoming year. All in all it was a successful year for everyone.
