Danny Grossman Project - Triptych |
|
Triptych was created by Danny Grossman in 1976. It is one of his works selected to be licensed and taught to professional dance companies. Grossman says Triptych is “about down and out types. About moths trying to turn into butterflies and failing.” “It reminds people of refugees after the Second World War, or people who live on the streets of their cities.” Linde Howe-Beck, Montreal Gazette “Triptych features three dancers dressed up as desolate street people. It displays the kind of motion that makes the air quiver, motion that makes a hush around itself. A beautiful and touching dance, it is a power in sustained movement...Grossman has choreographed a harrowingly beautiful study in desolation.” Freda Crisp, The Hamilton Spectator Danny Grossman will be teaching Triptych to Free Flow dancers during his visit to Saskatoon. As well, he will be teaching a Master Class to local dance artists. His visit will culminate with a studio showing of Triptych performed by Free Flow dancers. Free Flow Dance Theatre Company intends to perform Triptych throughout Saskatchewan in several communities and schools, and at the 2011 Fringe Festival. It is also the company’s hope to tour the piece outside of the province. |

His choreography has been in the repertoire of Toronto Dance Theatre, The Paris Opera Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and The National Ballet of Canada and has also been performed by modern dance training institutions such as Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, New York State Summer School of the Arts, York University, Adelphi University (Long Island), School of Toronto Dance Theatre, Brock University and DanceEast (Moncton). In 2008, the company embarked on an exciting new initiative, the Danny Grossman Dance Institute, as a means of preserving, reconstructing, and licensing Mr. Grossman’s remarkable repertoire and thus enabling conservatories, colleges, universities, as well as professional repertory companies to benefit from Mr. Grossman’s vast archive of works. |
